Discount Buying Sites __HOT__

Unlike rail passes, it's generally easy to buy point-to-point train tickets right at the station (whereas most rail passes aren't widely available in Europe). But it can be smart to buy in advance for certain trains and destinations, especially if your dates are set and you don't want to risk a specific train journey selling out, or if you're hoping to land an advance-purchase discount.

discount buying sites

You have three main options for buying point-to-point tickets: through a US-based retailer before leaving home (we even sell them right here), through the website of one of Europe's national railways, and in person at Europe's train stations (and at some European travel agencies). For big discounts, buy tickets up to three months ahead (just note that these tickets are nonrefundable and nonchangeable).

The easiest way to get train tickets online is to buy them through ricksteves.com (after all, you're already here!). Virtually all US-based websites and travel agents sell European train tickets for the exact same prices you'll find here.

Not all national-railway sites are created equal: While many are fairly easy to navigate (see my tips for using the well-designed British, French, German, Irish, Italian, Swedish, and Swiss railway sites), some are difficult for foreigners to use (notably the Austrian, Norwegian, and Spanish railway sites; PayPal solves some credit-card difficulties).

Once in Europe, you can simply get tickets at the station, usually without much fuss, either on your day of travel or in advance (see my tips for buying tickets in European train stations). This is the best option if you'd prefer to keep your itinerary more spontaneous. You can even get tickets for trains in another country: For example, if your trip starts in Paris, you can buy your Berlin-to-Prague ticket at any Parisian train station. Tickets bought at train-station windows tend to be easier to change (or have refunded) than tickets bought online.

In some cities you can avoid trekking to the train station by visiting a neighborhood travel agency or branch office of the national railroad. This convenience may come with a fee, but if the agency is easier for you to get to than the train station, buying tickets there can save lots of time and hassle (and travel agents may have more time and English-language skills than the people behind the train-station counter).

If you're buying point-to-point tickets, be aware of the ways you can qualify for a discount (whether buying through a national-railway website or in person). For details, check this site's country-specific rail pages for any countries you're planning to visit.

It also offers Hacker Fares which are simply 2 one-way tickets from different providers packaged together to get you the best deal. However, unlike other sites, to book these types of tickets you do have to go to 2 separate websites to book.

Priceline is a popular OTA that introduced the Name Your Own Price tool and opaque bookings. These types of bookings can offer discounts, but many of the details are hidden until after the booking. The Name Your Own Price tool was discontinued for flights in 2016, so now Priceline operates like most other OTAs out there.

If you prefer a more traditional booking, start out with a travel search engine like Kayak or Google Flights to search all of the other sites. That will give you a good idea of the best website to use to save the most money on your next flight.

An opaque booking is one in which many of the flight details including arrival and departure times and even airline are hidden until your booking is complete. Many sites including Hotwire, Orbitz, and Travelocity offer these types of bookings.

Unfortunately, there is no easy answer to this question. Your best bet would be to start with a travel search engine like Kayak or Google Flights. You will be able to see prices from many different websites in one place and you can track flight prices to help determine the best time to purchase tickets.

Hello Ramzin. You might try setting up a price alert for your desired dates. Do a flight search on sites like Kayak, Google Flights, and Monondo. Then set up the price tracker for those itineraries on each of those sites. You will get updates when pricing changes.

Hi Haider, This list is definitely not exhaustive, it just includes the sites we found to be beneficial. However, we will be sure to look into Travofy to see if it should be added to the list. Thanks!

I found Google flights to be expensive than most sites. I found one site that beats most of the above. I use it for my own travel. its it is a booking search engine similar to Kayak Flighthub etc but all the networks are found on cheapflyme.com and provide you the lowest prices similar to Expedia. I always find their prices to be the lowest.

I dont book from a website if that does not show the Fare class like Economy(T), Economy(U), Business(Z). 99% of the websites basically hide that fare code but Expedia has it. Its a super important info to know the amount of miles I earn from flights before I book it to maintain the Gold status by earning the 50K miles every year.

Premium outlets and private sale websites offer limited access to exclusive deals and discounts on designer brands. From fashion to beauty, there is a designer outlet online that can cater to people looking for genuine luxury products without the premium price tag. If you know where to look.

Today, Gilt has evolved into an e-commerce destination that does more than just flash sales; it also offers full-price merchandise and (non-flash) discounted items, in addition to daily deals. Stock typically flies off the shelf quickly, so if you want it, buy it now.

6pm is the discount retail division of Zappos IP, Inc. Launched in 2007, 6pm sells all sorts of clothes, shoes, bags, accessories and more for the whole family at deep discounted prices, including an entire section dedicated to luxury brands.

Whether you call it a members-only shopping site, flash sale site or online sample sale site, a private sale shopping site typically refers to discounted branded merchandise by an e-commerce store for a limited time.

Private sale sites offer short-duration, online events (read, sales) and exclusive privileges online to a members-only community. The good news is most of these members-only shopping clubs now offer free, instant membership to anyone who signs up. Visitors to the sites simply need to register as a member with their email addresses to view and buy merchandise. SOLD!

Allow users to interact with discount advertisements to have them automatically applied to their cart. Several users in our studies clicked on banners for discounts, attempting to apply the code to their orders (often unsuccessfully). For example, the shopping cart on Famous Footwear showed a promotional banner that looked like a button. Several users attempted to click it, unsuccessfully.

This technique can risk sales, especially in a stage as critical as checkout. Adding discounts in this convoluted way takes longer and can result in an incomplete or lost sale if users decide to spend their valued time elsewhere. Instead of sending users on a quest to find, memorize, and apply coupon codes, use the following techniques:

It was helpful for users when they could clearly see that the coupon had (or had not) been applied to the individual items in their cart, instead of having to guess whether the price will be updated later or whether the item was not eligible for the promotion. Users were suspicious if discounts were not clearly listed.

Special restricts on discounted items should also be communicated. For example, on WestElm.com, some sale items could not be returned due to the deep discount applied. This information was displayed in the shopping cart and placed in direct relation to the item in question.

Users wanted to know that they were receiving any advertised specials, deals, or discounts before they entered payment information. Coupon codes should be validated and reflected in the cost before requesting payment information. It is essential that users can see savings and understand how the total is calculated.

The frequency of your promotions and their visibility throughout your site should guide you in deciding whether you should use an open coupon-code field on the checkout page or you should just provide an unobtrusive link for entering the discount code.

Two of the most powerful engines behind this trend are online daily deals and digital coupons. Hundreds, perhaps thousands, of websites and apps exist solely to connect bargain-hunting shoppers with such opportunities to save.
